About Us

Asylee Women Enterprise, also known as "AWE", journeys with asylum seekers as they navigate the immigration legal process, begin to heal from past trauma and rebuild their lives. AWE is is the only program of its kind that offers wraparound services under one roof.  Emergency and transitional housing  is provided through a network of hosts., Catholic sisters, and other partners. Asylum seekers gather Monday through Friday at our day program that offers English as a Second Language, job readiness, parenting skills classes and wellness activities. AWE's unique model focuses on the importance of companionship and community where asylum seekers offer mutual support to eachother in a safe and supportive environment.

Background

The seeds of AWE began in January 2011 as a collaboration of Catholic Sisters from eight Catholic women’s religious communities in Baltimore working together to provide housing and a network of community to women seeking asylum. It is a secular organization open to all asylum seekers.
